I've read through all eight threads I found by searching 'vob' and didn't find anything that fits. thanks!

 

I think the process was actually on TGB but DAugust.  I noticed how he used MCEBuddy and it solved a problem I had with one of my existing DVDs and it worked nicely for me. The post is here: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/post/232112.aspx

FYI for anyone wanting to do this for an n810 that stumbles upon this thread. I've found first ripping the movie (dvdfab decrypter - free version works awesome), then using vob2mpg to essentially join the vobs  into 1 mpg, then using mcebuddy n800/n810 option to transcode again works like clockwork. Now I have something to watch on the plane tomorrow.
