    PS3 Compatibility

    Hi Everyone,

I'm only new to this site and I want to say what a fantastic program!

I have found a few random posts about ps3 compatibility but nothing definitive, so I'm just wondering when this feature will be incorporated?

The way I want to use MCEBuddy is to convert to a ps3 compatible format, and then I can connect via Remote Play on my PSP via the internet or private network and watch any recently recorded tv. I can currently do this with other divx videos I have downloaded and it works flawlessly! I was amazed at the clarity of the picture while streaming over the net.

So now all i need is a compatible format in MCEBuddy :)

Keep up the great work guys!

1.0.8 has both an updated PSP conversion as well as a new PS3 conversion.  Give it a go and let us know how it goes.

Playstation 3 setting doesn't work.. It doesn't even show up in the folder. However, when I convert it as wmv it will show up but when I goto play it, it says data type not supported.

I can also confirm the Playstation 3 conversion does not work. It converts the file to .mp4 and the PS3 can see it but when you go to play says 'Data corrupt'.

Tried it several times on different MCE Recorded TV files...

    Re: PS3 Compatibility

I recently downloaded MCEBuddy.  I can confirm that the PS3 conversion WORKS.  I have 2 PS3's both with latest firmware.

    Setup

    • Dell 530S with Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16Gzh processor, 4GB RAM - Running Vista Home Premium
    • Dual DVB tuner Hauppuage Nova T500 Card
    • NAS - 1TB Lacie Ethernet Big Disk running Twonky Media Server 4.4.4
    • 2 x PS3 for steaming client
    • Archos 605 WiFi for portable viewing
    • All nodes are wired ethernet (excpet the Archos of course)

MCEBuddy is configured the watch the default media centre recoding folder and wirtes the converted files to the NAS where they are viewed.

I have noticed however that the picture seems a little CHOPPY - just slightly.  Overall picture quality is OK.  What are the exact settings used for the PS3 conversion (i.e. resolution etc)?  Machine was not doing anything else at time of recording.  I don't think this is a CPU limitation issue since I have a relatviely new CPU.  Have plenty of RAM.  Could it be related to writing the output to a NAS (100Mb) instead of local HDD? Has anyone else noticed this?

I was unable to however to get any of the other conversion types working on PS3.  Does anyone know if MCEBuddy uses the codec installed by Divx Pro?  Tried both DivX and H .264 settings but could not get to play on playstation.  Also curious why DivX is used instead of the free Xvid.

I have no problem viewing Xvid, DivX etc on the PS3 with video I have ripped myself (AutoGK).

Other than the issues this is a great program/idea.  Spent ages scouring the net to find something like this.  Good work!

    Re: PS3 Compatibility

Just to follow up - I have checked that this is not a streaming issue. The files have been copied to the PS3 HDD (latest firmare) where they still exhibit a slight stutter. It looks as though the file missing frames. The jumps are very small but noticeable - you notice it most on pan shots.

Has anyone else seen this? Has anyone else had success with any of the other formats on PS3?

Thanks for this.  I don't have a PS3 so I'm doing the transcode for it blind and by guessswork.

If you are converting at the same time as watching it could easily be choppy while you are watching a show unless your system has muchos CPU.

MCEBuddy does not use DivX Pro codec.  Xvid wil be provided in the next release (MCEBuddy 2.0) along with DivX.  H.264 in the next release will only be MP4 (not AVI) and should work fine.  I have no idea why DivX doesn't work as it's pretty basic.

    Re: PS3 Compatibility

    Thanks,

The stuttering issue is not a CPU thing I'm sure - and I'm never watching as it encodes.  When I check the files in WMP on my PC they are still choppy.  It's not the picture quality, it just looks like frames are missing especially on panning shots or watching peoples mouths when they speak. The only formats that work on the PS3 as of this moment are the PS3 profile and the MPEG2 Low Quality settings both of which produce the stutter.  When I use a DivX setting the video comes out fine but does not work on PS3.  The PS3 reports these as "Unsupported Data".

The problem could be with the audio encoding when using DivX.  MP3 audio works fine but AAC does not I believe.  I haven't checked it with Gspot yet.  In the past when a DivX has not worked on the PS3 it has been down to the audio.

I think if you get native Xvid support we'll be fine.  Looking forward to V2.
