    Episode names

When the shows are converted, the episode names are being lost.  Is there any way to get this information added to the filename, perhaps as an option?  I actually care far more about that then the recording date/time.  In an ideal world, I'd be able to have the shows be something like:
    {show name}-{episode name}-{channel info}-{date/time}

Perhaps this is possible now, and I'm just not seeing how to get that info into the filename tho.  Or is that part of the tags feature work which is not yet completed?

    Hi Wookie,

You can carefully edit the registry (insert disclaimer here) to customize dvr-ms file names as detailed below:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording

add or edit the String Value - 'filenaming'

    %Ch - Channel Number
    %Cn - Station Name
    %T - Title of show
    %Et - Episode Title
    %Dt - Date and Time

    For example - %T_%Et_%Cn

PERFECT!  That is _exactly_ what I needed.  Sweet!  Thank-you for the quick reply and feature capability!  :)  And no worries, I'm a software tester by trade, so have no fear of regedit.  Brave man that recommends it to the masses tho.  ;)  LOL  Thanks G!

To the (huddled) masses:  BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE MESSING AROUND !!!!

...sorry for shouting, but neither I, nor MCEBuddy will be responsible for your mistakes.

Thank you for your continued support of CSI (the Collective Sanity Initiative).

    Re: Episode names

Does anyone know if my only option for %Dt is the standard format dd_MM_yyyy_hh_mm_ss? If the developers thought usage through a little better a yyyy_MM_dd_hh_mm_ss date format sorts chronologically if sorted by name in Explorer. If the show title is still first it sorts chronologically by show. I guess the format they used is an International standard but in this case not the most usable. My feature wish list would allow and use a pattern for this registry key like %Dt{yyyy_MM_dd_hh_mm_ss} to control the date format as I like. (Note: MM is for month while mm is for minute just to be clear)

    Re: Episode names

I don't have Media Center installed, so no option exists under that path.  But, I've been dying to have files named by episode rather than date and time.

Any idea what I should do?

It'll be a little while.  The core engine is about to enter beta in the next week or so.

It's just the core engine (the conversion bit) not the whole service at this stage so you won't be able to swap out 1.0.8 and use 2.0 until it is.  How are you with a command line?

I'm old school...  so am generally of the opinion of that if it can't be done from command line, it ain't worth doin at all...  Plus, command line lends itself to automation / scripting...  all BIG plusses in my book.

So am I.   After all, not everything can be done with a registry hack!    :O)

Let me know if (and how) I could assist with beta testing.

Honestly, a bit out of practice with the DOS command line.  Now Linux on the other hand...

    But I can brush up!
