    iPhone conversion: anyone else have problems with itunes saying "cannot sync file to device"

    The conversion under 1.08 to the iPhone profile (i have a 3G) works well. Plays fine inside of itunes on both PC and MAC. However, on sync to the Ipod touch/phone profile, the sync gets 99% there and quits with "cannot sync file".

    Anyone else have this problem?

    I am also having issues getting conversions working on my iPod Touch, some shows work and others do not, most do not.  My recordings will play fine on my PC and look great but most will not sync to my iPod and when I try playing them on my PS3 I get sound and no audio.

    I have found that on the shows that do not work the frame rates show around 60 frames per second (this is the standard frames per second for HDTV), the iPhone supports a maximum frame rate of 30 fps so this appears to be the problem.  Shows that are converted with frame rates under 30 will sync correctly.

    It seems like the iPhone profile is detecting the HDTV frame rates and using that instead of encoding with a lower frame rate that is required for the iPhone/Touch etc.  If there is a way to hard code the frame rate to 29.97 or 23.97 it should work correctly, but I do not know how to do this.

    I really need this profile to work so any help or suggestions from others would be great.

    Try adding this to your mencoder.conf file

    [x264-New-iPod]
    profile-desc="iPod    New"
    vf=pullup,softskip,pp=fd,scale=320,240,hqdn3d,harddup
    lavdopts=threads=2
    ovc=x264=yes
    x264encopts=threads=auto:frameref=6:subq=7:qcomp=0.8:me=umh:me_range=24:trellis=2:bframes=0:nocabac=yes:partitions=p8x8,i4x4:level_idc=30:direct_pred=auto:deblock=-1,0:bitrate=1200
    oac=faac=yes

    I have the same problem. I tried this fix, but it did not work for me.

    Re: iPhone conversion: anyone else have problems with itunes saying "cannot sync file to device"

    I have found that I am consistantly able to record and convert OTA from some channels, but recordings from two stations will get the mentioned error and will not copy to the iPhone. It is as of there is something fundamentally different about the signal from those two broadcast stations. Has anyone else seen this correlation? Might there be something to this? Any way I can test or confirm? What might this difference be? How might I work around this?
